Dance like no one’s watching (or recording!)

Community just isn’t what it used to be, is it?

Early in the morning, over the lunch hour, and after dinner, I spent this past week pursuing responsibility and excellence purposefully with an intergenerational, multi-national team. And we did it over Zoom.

Like many of you, my past months have been ones of restrictions:

Avoid crowds…and we’ll close down public spaces to help you be compliant.  🙂

Don’t go outside… unless you wear a mask.

Don’t go exercising…unless you are 10 meters apart.

Don’t go marketing…unless you go alone.

Don’t go to the office…unless you are an essential worker.

Don’t meet with others…unless it is via video conference.

But video conference is only virtual…it isn’t real (you feel it in your heart).

What could get an introvert, more than twice the age of most of the people on this week’s Zoom calls with the Institute for Cultural Communicators, to dance AND not care that it was recorded?

Two things:

  • a life-giving community so powerful that I would express joy in the universal language of dance
  • a vibrant transformation so great that, like an ancient king filled with delight in the Lord and His mighty deeds, I would dance with all my might.

13 And when those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. 14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn. 2 Samuel 6: 13 – 15.

May you, too, find a life-giving community and vibrant transformation in Christ. May it ripple from you to others. May the King of glory be praised.

  1. The 10 meter rule is new to me but the rest sounds like home. I’m so inspired by the way the two of you have adapted to the unexpected changes in your assignment. Dance on!

  2. Glad to see you still have a sense of humor! We’re getting used to online church and all the restrictions in my area of Pa. If anything please pray for the situation over here, it feels like we’re back in the 60’s again (it’s a sad thing) We are doing well take care and be safe.
    love, Jeff

    1. I pray for all that is going on across the US and ask for the Lord to reign supreme and that His people would share the love of Christ faithfully and genuinely, even when misunderstood. Thanks for the update!
