February 2017 Update

Dear family and friends,

We have prayed for clarity and the Lord has answered. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

The lung nodule they thought they saw….isn’t there anymore. Yeah! However the CT scan DID reveal that my thyroid IS PRESSING on my windpipe so it is clear that the enlarged nodule will need to be removed. So surgery is in the works … possibly not until April.

The amazing story here is that for more than 12 years I lacked clear direction on how I should respond to my overactive thyroid. It’s only because of the suspect lung nodule that we found out that the windpipe is pushed aside and it is now very clear what needs to be done. I thank the Lord for OMF’s rigorous medical clearance procedures that required the chest X-ray that revealed a possible lung nodule that showed me that thyroid surgery would be necessary.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’ t want surgery. I’ve never had surgery for anything ever before. However it is clear that this is the path that the Lord would have me walk and I embrace it, thankful for the clarity He has provided. He is my strength and my refuge. So I look to Him for strength to do that which I don’t really want to. I’m beginning to understand the words of Christ to Peter in John 21,

“When you get old you’ll have to stretch out your hands while someone else dresses you and takes you where you don’t want to go.”

Please join us in praying for a successful surgery (it’s called a partial thyroidectomy) with no complications and clear lab results afterwards.

Can I invite you to also join us in prayer for our daughters this month? With a little creative thinking, I’m sure you can discern how to pray!

  • Kristen’s husband Bill will likely be deployed this spring for 6 – 9 months away from home
  • Rebecca’s upcoming wedding is scheduled for late May
  • Colleen is anticipating her study abroad program to England this July

PS. I’m taking some concrete steps on reaching out to folks so don’t be surprised if you actually get a phone call from me! I’m learning, too, to be more faithful in responding to your replies and really appreciate hearing from you.
