Numbering our days

This week, both Au and I got this notice from our organization’s administrator:

Completion of Home Assignment: This is a reminder that in 3 months or less, you are scheduled to complete your Home Assignment. Please contact your home side Personnel Manager to discuss arrangements.

We arrived in the US in mid-January to the bitter cold of winter and a family reunion. Since then, we’ve celebrated the new life of a granddaughter.

Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. Genesis 2:7

We’ve taken time to visit family, reconnect with friends, and report back to partners of the Lord’s work through OMF.  Laughter, meals, and road trips!

Yet to come, we have plans to travel to California to see partners and family, join my sisters for a family reunion, attend an OMF training in Colorado, celebrate with the Institute for Cultural Communicators at their 25th-anniversary event, and reconnect with more of you before we return to Singapore later this summer.

Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” James 4: 14 – 15

During our time here, we’ve also had energy diversions and delays – testing positive for covid two weeks ago, investing energy into home renovations, and taking numerous medical tests like physicals, bloodwork, eye exams, and scans. And yet, it is all part of God’s plan for us to trust Him in all our ways and not rely on our own understanding. And our goal is that we might be refreshed and renewed for the work the Lord has for us as we return to Singapore.

Next week we meet with our Personnel Manager to make sure our finances and medical clearances are approved and we recommit to our full-time work with OMF as we complete our Home Assignment in mid-August.

Like each of you, we make plans and have dreams. We take the best next steps we know, and life interrupts. There is much we don’t know about the future, but we do know that the Lord, the lover of our souls, will guide us. May this be true for you, too.

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90: 12

  1. May He guide each step of the next 3 months! (Love the paragraph starting, “ Like each of you, we make plans and have dreams…”
