Yes, we are still Americans (Part 1)

I think of the great heroes of the faith. The heroes of Hebrews 11 were people who “were longing for a better country—a heavenly one.”

“All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.”

I want to live as a woman of faith, longing for a better country, and yet, I AM a citizen of an earthly country. As American citizens, Au and I have both a duty and a privilege to vote in primaries, general elections, and presidential elections. And in 2020, America is facing hard realities and difficult choices.

Someone precious to me recently modeled these words:

Black Lives Are Valuable. Black Lives Are Precious. Black Lives Are Important.

An ancient prophet, of a minority people, living in a city whose walls were destroyed cried out,

“Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?” Malachi 2:10

This prophet called out against the immoral and unethical behavior of his own people. We, like him, cannot ignore or overlook the injustices in our midst. Black Lives Are Valuable.

Five hundred years later, a physician (and global traveler) reminds us that God has “made us in all our diversity from one original person, allowing each culture to have its own time to develop, giving each its own place to live and thrive in its distinct ways.” Acts 17:26

Do you realize that means we are ALL related??? Black Lives Are Precious.

What a horror it is to see people hating people – whether it’s because of ethnicity, religion, skin color, or politics. Black Lives Are Important.

And I add these words:

Unborn lives are valuable. Unborn lives are precious. Unborn lives are important.

There is coming a time when a coming King will rule and rule in ways so different from the ways of today’s leaders.

[For an interesting exercise, if you trust Wikipedia, you could compare the percentages of bias-motivated crimes to the rate of abortions and get a scope of the impact. In 1973, abortion became a legally protected right in America. That was the year Eunice turned ten years old. She was devasted to discover that abortion was when a mother allowed the killing of her own unborn baby.]
