What a question! Let’s explore this a bit together…
- is he WORTHY? Worthy of what? The Cambridge Online Dictionary defines worthy as “deserving respect, admiration, or support.” Respect, admiration, support. Who do you know who is worthy?
- is HE worthy? Who is the HE? A quick online search reveals over 100 instances of the word “worthy” used in ancient literature written over two thousand years ago. This poem, given to a music director as a dedication after his rescue from his enemies, declares the LORD to be worthy:
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
- IS he worthy? That is the question isn’t it? He may have been worthy in the past….and this prophecy declares Him to be worthy in the future:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
But if He isn’t worthy today, right now….is it worthwhile (pun intended) following Him today? May you take a few minutes today to ponder this question as you reflect during one of these videos. You can choose from the following selections (from Tennessee to Malaysia to California to Indonesia):
- the original composer’s inspiring footage in a beautiful chapel
- a version with Chinese subtitles (inserted by someone from Au’s city of birth)
- a version using American Sign Language
- and Eunice’s favorite (I’m missing my grandchildren and thankful for my years raising a family), a young family singing their answer
